A number of years ago, I stumbled upon a book with a rather peculiar name: Arven etter Arn (The Legacy of Arn). I had never heard of it before, and had no reference to it whatsoever. I figured I had to read it, since it was more or less named after me. It soon became apparent that the book was no more than the 4th part of a trilogy (!) concerning a swedish Knight Templar that went from Götaland, to Jerusalem, and back again. I aquired all four books, and read them gluttonously. I've read a few books in my days, but these still stand out among the very finest. The story is incredible in all ways, and Jan Guillou is absolutely splendid in sucking the reader away to the faraway struggles of the Crusaders. The first book is called The Road to Jerusalem and tells of Arn Magnusson's life as a young swedish boy, up until his departure to the holy land.
The second book, entitled The Knight Templar, tells the magnificent story of Arn's career as a 17 years old boy coming to Jerusalem to serve with the Knight Templars to defend the Holy Land.
The third book, named The Kingdom at the End of the Road finally sees Arn back in sweden, and finally together with his beloved Cecilia. The 20 years he has been gone has torn the sweden he knew appart, and he uses what he has learned in the crusades, to try to fix it.
Anyways, a few months back, browsing IMDB (Internet Movie Database) I stumbled upon the makings of a new movie. It would appear one of my favourite literature characters is coming to life. Jan Guillou has, with the help of director Peter Flinth, begun the pre-productive works of making the movie "Arn - Tempelridderen" with a current budget of 250 mill SEK!
WEEEEEE!!!
Part one is to be released around christmas 2007! XD
